AI Is Making Human Connection More Valuable in Real Estate
AI is changing the way we work in real estate.
I use it in my own business for marketing, content, research, and finding creative ways to connect with people. I believe there is tremendous opportunity in learning how to use these tools well.
But in a recent conversation with Andrea Gordon, a top-producing real estate professional in the San Francisco Bay Area, we kept coming back to something that technology cannot replace.
Human connection.
Andrea has been in real estate for more than 27 years and averages around $60 million in annual sales. She has built a successful business with assistants, a transaction coordinator, marketing support, and a virtual assistant. Yet one of the most important parts of her business is remarkably simple: she communicates with people. Pasted text
Communication Is Still Everything
Andrea told me that she has a 15-minute meeting with every seller every week.
Even if there isn't much happening with a listing, she communicates.
That stood out to me because we have so many tools available now that it's easy to think automation can handle everything.
It can't.
A CRM can remind you to follow up. AI can help you draft an email. Automation can make sure information gets delivered.
But none of those things can replace actually talking with your client and listening to what they need.
Andrea made a great point during our conversation. Clients can become frustrated when they don't hear from their agent, especially when a property has been sitting on the market. Regular communication lets them know that you haven't forgotten about them. Pasted text
AI Is a Tool, Not Your Judgment
I love using AI to create content and explore new marketing ideas.
Andrea uses AI too, but she shared a story that should be a reminder for all of us.
While working on an assignment for graduate school, she asked AI to help create an annotated bibliography. The result looked impressive until she started checking the books.
They didn't exist.
AI had created them.
Andrea went back, did the research herself, and learned an important lesson. AI can be incredibly useful, but we still have to verify what it gives us. Pasted text
That's especially important in real estate, where people rely on us for professional guidance.
AI can support our expertise. It should never replace our responsibility to think, verify, and use good judgment.
Human Contact Is Becoming the New Currency
This was one of my favorite parts of our conversation.
I believe that as AI-generated emails, texts, social posts, and marketing become more common, genuine human interaction will become even more valuable.
I called human contact “the new currency.”
Andrea agreed. She loves what AI can do for content, but she believes the personal touch is mandatory. Pasted text
I think that's where the real opportunity is for Realtors.
Use AI to help with the work that takes time. Use it to create ideas, improve systems, organize information, and support your marketing.
Then use the time you gain to do something technology can't do for you.
Build relationships.
Andrea's own business is a great example. Her marketing reflects who she is, she's deeply involved in her community, and people know what she stands for. Those relationships have become part of her business because people know her character, not simply her marketing. Pasted text
The future isn't AI versus the Realtor.
I believe it's about learning how to use technology while becoming even better at the human side of this business.
And that may be one of the biggest competitive advantages we have.
